Fifth day at Cocos includes a night dive. July 4, 2016

The fifth day of diving at Cocos Island included dives at Dirty Rock, Punta Maria, Manuelita Island Coral Garden, and a night dive in Chatham Bay.

Our return to Dirty Rock included Scalloped Hammerheads and a chilly 73 degree thermocline, it was a relief to ascend back into 79 degree water for our safety stop.

Peter, a well known rebreather instructor, and Tom Campbell, one of his former students, prepare for a rebreather dive at Dirty Rock.

Charlie Bloomer on left, and Peter.

Dirty Rock, so named for bird deposits on the rocks...

                                          Peter nearly ready to splash.

Beautiful Scalloped Hammerhead with Creole fish.

The Yellow Dive Team returns to the Sea Hunter
One of Cocos Island's many beautiful water falls.  Jacques Cousteau called Cocos "The Most Beautiful Island on Earth!".

One of Cocos Island's many caves.
Another gorgeous water fall.  Cocos is the second wettest place on earth - 24 ft of rain annually.

Punta Maria, our second dive, had very very strong current.  We had to use a line from the boat to the mooring buoy to descend and to come back.  Difficult dive without a lot to show for it.

       Marbled Ray, Punta Maria.

                                 Scalloped Hammerhead, Manuelita Coral Garden

Large Galapagos Shark (10 ft) with Blue Runners, Manuelita Coral Garden.

                                 Hammerhead with Rough Triggerfish

                                          Approaching Marbled Ray

Chatham Bay 2nd Night Dive
Whitetips Everywhere, Marbled Rays, Beautiful Lobster

I didn't follow the safety advice of staying at least two feet up off the bottom to get this shot.  But I didn't stay on the bottom long, I had Whitetips swimming all over me.

Black Jacks and Whitetips and Blue Trevally hunting aggressively together.  What a nightmare for the reef fishing huddling in their hiding places.

:
     Beautiful Spiny Lobster
